Award winning First Utility is one of the smaller energy companies which has made quite a large impact of late. It hit the headlines recently with its giant killing tactics by introducing some of the cheapest tariffs in the UK, surprisingly undercutting the larger and more powerful domestic energy suppliers such as British Gas and Scottish Power.

First Utility is based in Warwickshire and has the majority of its energy customers in the Midlands area. First Utility customers in the Midlands area have benefited form the companys innovative roll out of its Smart Metering system which automatically records and sends meter readings to the supplier resulting in very accurate bills for the customer.

It was shortlisted for the Housebuilding Innovation Awards in August 2009 and went on to win the Housing Product of the Year 2009 in London.

It supplies gas, electricity, phone and broadband services to a range of domestic and business customers, yet only in the Midlands can customers benefit from their smart metering. Customers in other parts of the UK can take advantage of their cheap paperless billing tariffs with standard meters.

Energyhelpline have give First Utility a 1 Star rating (out of five) when it comes to customer service and application processing and other customer services activities.

Customers wanting to take advantage of First Utilities price busting tariffs will be subjected to a stringent credit check, which currently is resulting in a high rate of application failure. Also, their tariffs are available to home owners only. First Utility is also a Carbon Neutral company.

iSave Of all the UK tariffs this ranks as one of the cheapest. Customers are required to pay their bills using direct debit and they will be required to read their bills online. They must also be prepared to go through a stringent credit check.

This tariff is not available to customers living in Paisley, Perth, N Scotland and the Isle of Wight.

Payments by direct debit will vary depending on the meter reading that the customer has submitted and its services are not available to customers on the IGT (Independent Gas Transporter) network.

Customer receive £5 credit for each meter reading they submit which will paid back after their 12th consecutive direct debit has taken place.
